BLACK BOX PERFORMANCE PROJECT - SUMMER INTENSIVE
Disney's The Lion King Jr.
in association with Southampton Cultural Center

Director Tamara Salkin and Musical Director Amanda Jones act as guides and mentors
to help actors and singers learn theatre and vocal skills for on and off the stage.
Using Black Box Theatre style and techniques, participants will perform a full length musical in an educationally based setting.
Taking the focus off the set, costumes, lights and spectacle we will bring the focus back to the actors and the work they are doing.
Actors will do thorough script, song, and character analysis.
Actors will make stagecraft decisions regarding the minimal costumes, sets, props, sound design, and lighting design.
Actors will learn production duties such as constructing the playbill and more.

AUDITIONS June 29 from 9:00AM-12:00PM at the Southampton Cultural Center
PERFORMANCES July 19 @7:00PM, July 20 @3:00PM and 7:00PM

Rehearsal Schedule:
July 1-3, 9:00AM-12:30PM

Snacks including granolas bars, fresh fruits, pretzels, cheese sticks etc. and bottled water will be provided at all rehearsals

ACT - ACTING IN CHILDREN'S THEATRE  Taught by Tamara Salkin

Learn acting skills and techniques, have fun playing theatre and drama games, and get creative!
The teacher will guide the young actors in writing and performing an original short play adaptation! 
This special class just for young actors is the perfect foundation course for children interested in being on stage and performing.
Workshop showcase for family and friends on last day

FOUNDATIONS: BASICS OF STAGE MAKEUP

Foundations: Basics of Stage Makeup will explore the fundamental skills of basic theatrical makeup. Techniques will be discussed, demonstrated and practiced. Topics covered will include the differences between everyday makeup and stage makeup, proper sanitation and infection control, skin care and preparation, following a face chart, color theory and lighting effects on makeup. This three hour course is a fantastic start for students planning to pursue theater on a professional level and hobbyists alike.

Instructor Robert C. Kohnken is a licensed professional in the Esthetics and Makeup industries for over 10 years. His career has brought him all over the country, including Hollywood, CA and New York, NY. He is also a NYS licensed instructor. His work has been seen on stage, on the NYFW runways and in film/print.

Workshop includes a professional grade stage makeup kit to be used during the workshop, future workshops, and any and all stage performances the student participates in. Pre-registration is REQUIRED for pre-ordering a kit color matched to your skin tone.

This is our entry level makeup workshop. Future workshops could potentially include, ‘Foundations: Fantasy Makeup’; ‘Foundations: Midsummer Night’s Dream’; ‘Foundations: Advanced Stage Makeup’

Date: May 18, 1pm-4pm
Tuition and Materials Fee: $40 (workshop), $45 (professional stage makeup kit, yours to keep and use in future makeup workshops)

STORY STAGE T aught by Tamara Salkin

Drop in weekly all summer long for fun and interactive Story Stage! Participants will use their imaginations to act out well known and classic stories and fairytales. Puppets, masks, costumes, and more... Bring your imagination!

SHAKESPEARE MONOLOGUES Taught by Tamara Salkin

Actors will select a Shakespeare monologue and learn how to analyze it and break it down to prepare for performance.
Excellent for college auditions requiring a classical monologue.

SCENE STUDY OF MODERN AMERICAN PLAYS Taught by Tamara Salkin
Actors will learn how to break down a scene, analyze the script, and work with a partner. 
Scenes will be from Modern American Plays and will feature characters and themes that are age appropriate.
May 13 through June 2 4:30-6:00pm
